On August 31, 2007 Guiyang, the capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province, was dubbed as China's Summer Tourist Resort City by the Meteorological Society.

Experts from the China Meteorological Administration and the Meteorological Society researched and evaluated summer tourism, industries and city construction in the city of Guiyang. They also studied the city's climate, human dwellings and tourist population. After a comprehensive assessment Guiyang received the award.

China’s Yuntai Mountain Scenic Spot established a sister park relationship this week with the Grand Canyon National Park in the United States, promoting increased cooperation in the management of protected natural resources.Han Yueping, director of Yuntai Mountain Scenic Spot, and Stephen Martin, superintendent of the Grand Canyon National Park, signed a five-year Sister Park agreement in Beijing on Monday.

Leading tourism official in Tibet says he wants to change the perception that Tibet is “closed” to tourists in winter so more visitors can see the region’s attractions in off-season.Pagzho, director of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Bureau of Tourism, said travelers on tight schedules who want to visit Potala Palace should avoid going during the peak summer season. Pagzho said the misunderstanding that it was impossible to travel in Tibet during winter should be changed.

A sculptor from Shanghai used ten years to finish a mini Yuanmingyuan Park, giving people a full view of the ancient royal garden left in ruins by the British and French invaders during the Second Opium War in 1860.

The delicate sculpturing work is now on display at the Shanghai International Gymnastic Center, Xinmin Evening News reports.
